Volunteering at FBS

As a volunteer with FBS, you would gain valuable skills and experience and be part of a team making a real difference to children and families who need some guidance and hope. You would be given an opportunity to learn new skills and develop your existing ones using solution focused practices and other relevant training.

Volunteering Opportunities

FBS offers the following volunteering opportunities:

Family Support: Working with families using solution focused questioning to help re build relationships and support them in moving forward. You must be able to commit to see the family once a week for a minimum of an hour.

Supporting in parent groups: Supporting in delivery of one off or weekly parent groups including the ‘DART’ programme.

Fundraising: leading on or supporting in creating and delivering FBS events.

Who can volunteer?

We welcome anyone who has a passion for helping others and would like to gain experience in this field. You do not need to have a certain qualification to volunteer with us.

Personal qualities: ability to work with others and use own initiative, be motivated to support others, be empathetic towards families and individuals, have patience and be open minded.

Must be able to: commit for a minimum of six months, undertake training provided, attend evening volunteer team meetings once a month, be willing to have a DBS check.

Please note: We are more than happy to write a reference to all volunteers after they have completed their six months  continuous volunteering.

What hours do I have to commit to?

Family Support: We ask volunteers for 1.5/2hrs of their time each week. This includes a quick chat before the session starts with a Project Manager or Snr. Volunteer, one hour session then a de-brief. You can choose to see a family when it suits you. We offer am/pm/evening and Saturday appointments to service users.

Parent Groups: two hours a week.

Fundraising: Flexi

Who will I be working with?

New volunteers will always be paired up with Snr. Volunteers.  Volunteers will be able to conduct family sessions at the FBS office once you are trained as a Snr. volunteer. All home visits are carried out by at least two volunteers or employees.

What training will I need?

All volunteers are expected to complete basic child protection training and solution focused practices training. Other training will also be offered. Volunteers are not expected to pay for any of the training.

Who should I contact?

Contact the FBS managers for more information and to book an informal discussion about volunteering opportunities at FBS.
